What to Expect
In speech-language therapy, the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) works to improve any of the following areas of communication:
Speech: Speech is a student's speech intelligibility and their accurate pronunciation of sounds; articulation.
Language: Language is the comprehension of language (receptive language) and how a student expresses themselves (expressive language). This includes skills like following directions, grammar, vocabulary, etc.
Fluency: Students who stutter have trouble maintaining fluent speech.
Voice: Voice disorders can be caused by misuse or trauma. Vocal qualities can be breathy, hoarse, too loud, or too quiet.
Social: Social pragmatic skills include the ability to use verbal and nonverbal social language with others.
Meet Mrs. Bass
Welcome! My name is Laura Bass and I am the speech-language pathologist at Quogue Elementary School. This will be my fourth year at Quogue School. I am looking forward to having another great school year!
My goal is for students to be given the necessary speech-language support throughout the year so they can better access the academic curriculum. In my speech room, we work hard improving our speech and language skills while also having fun.
I am a Westhampton Beach High School alumna (let's go Hurricanes!) and love being a part of this special community. I received my Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders at New York University and my Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology at Molloy College. Prior to working at Quogue school, I worked in variety of settings such as speech clinics, charter schools, and public schools.
If you have any questions at all throughout the school year, please do not hesitate to contact me at lbass@quogueschool.com.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bass, M.S., CCC-SLP, TSSLD
