What to Expect in 1st Grade

This will be a big year of amazing growth and development for your child! First grade is a child-centered place where good books are read aloud often and fuel our learning and conversation, exploration is encouraged, and students’ social and emotional needs are prioritized.

If you’d like to learn more about how first graders are learning and developing, here is a wonderful article from Understood.org which I encourage you to read.

Meet the Teacher

Hello! My name is Mrs. Barry and this will be my eighth year teaching at the Quogue School. I am so looking forward to starting a brand new year in 1st Grade! I am looking forward to spending this year having fun and learning with you. I went to school at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. While attending, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology as well as a Master of Science in Elementary Education and a specialization in Special Education. A few fun facts about me are that I love to read, garden, and walk my dogs to the beach! In my spare time, I also enjoy bee-keeping at Lewin Farm in Baiting Hollow! Bees are very interesting insects. I learn more about honey bees each day and look forward to sharing my experiences with you!
