Restore Foundation Aid to Our School

April 4, 2024

Reject Governor Hochul’s proposed budget that makes cuts to foundation aid. Urge our elected officials to stand up for students and families by pushing for full foundation aid and also to not remove the “Save Harmless” also known as “Hold Harmless” provision. The Hold Harmless provision protects and assists small districts, like Quogue Union Free School District, by preventing them from receiving less foundation aid than they did the prior year. The Save Harmless provision has been in place for almost 50 years. Please provide our children with the resources they need to succeed and take action soon by sending emails or letters to our elected officials.

Dear [Recipient's Name],

I am writing to you today with an urgent request to keep the Hold Harmless provision and not allow the proposed reduction in state aid for the Quogue Union Free School District. At a time when expenditures continue to rise, any loss of school funding poses a grave threat to our district. As a community, we must ensure that our children have access to the best possible education, and that starts with adequate funding.

The impact of reducing school funding cannot be overstated. It would directly affect the resources, programs, support services, school security and safety, which are essential for providing a safe well-rounded learning experience for students. We hope you will see that the proposed foundation cuts come at a time when the state should be supporting schools instead of cutting their funding.

Our children's future is at stake, and we cannot afford to let them down. I urge you to keep the “Hold Harmless” provision and to not allow any reductions in state aid. Our children deserve to receive the resources they need to succeed.

Thank you for your commitment and dedication to supporting public school districts and students.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
